If your using Windows :

Make sure you are on the homepage of the Discussion Board. On the right of the toolbar there is a small house icon. On the right of this there is a arrow allowing a drop down box. Click this then select the 'add or change homepage' button. Select the 'make this the only homepage option' Click 'Yes' . Now log in to the Discussion Board and before clicking 'log in' select the 'remember me / stay logged in box' . This will make sure that when ever you turn your internet on you will see the Discussion board and all the new posts. Hopefully this will make communication easier.

NB: Make users follow many of the same tasks but simply press the '+' button on the left of the URL box instead of the 'small house icon' .
